Understanding your options

WHAT TO EXPECT.

Learn how follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation works, from consultation and donor assessment to recovery and expected growth.

01

Personal assessment

A licensed medical professional assesses the scalp, hair-loss pattern and available donor area.

02

Individualized planning

The clinical team determines whether surgery is appropriate and plans graft distribution, hairline design and the procedure.

03

Extraction & placement

Individual follicular units are harvested and implanted by appropriately licensed or authorized personnel under the responsible physician’s care.

Who may be a candidate?

FUE may be considered for certain people with stable hair loss and sufficient healthy donor hair. A physician evaluates hair-loss pattern, medical history, scalp health, donor density and expectations before recommending surgery.

Results and recovery

Tiny extraction and implantation sites heal over the following days and weeks. Transplanted hairs often shed initially before new growth develops. Visible improvement commonly unfolds over 6–12 months, with some patients continuing to mature beyond that. Timelines and results vary.

Common questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED.

What does FUE stand for?

Follicular unit extraction. Individual hair follicular units are removed from a donor area and placed into areas where additional coverage is desired.

Does FUE leave scars?

FUE typically leaves small dot-like scars in the donor area rather than a single linear incision. Scarring and visibility vary.

How many grafts will I need?

That depends on the area to be treated, your donor supply, hair characteristics and goals. A clinical assessment is needed to estimate graft count.

Is the result permanent?

Transplanted follicles can provide long-lasting growth, but non-transplanted hair may continue thinning. Maintenance or additional treatment may be recommended.

When can I return to normal activities?

Recovery instructions depend on the procedure and your medical team. Many people resume light routines within days, but strenuous activity and headwear may be restricted for longer.
